On Thursday, April 10, 2025, the European Final of the 5th EU-CONEXUS International School Contest, titled “Think Smart, Create Green,” was successfully concluded. The competition aims to raise awareness among students about issues related to environmental sustainability. More than 700 students from the nine (9) EU-CONEXUS member countries participated in this year’s event.

The Agricultural University of Athens earned top distinctions, securing first place in the 14–17 age category, represented by the team “AiRcar” from HAEF Athens College - Psychico College, and fourth place in the 12–14 age category, represented by the team “The Sea Musketeers” from the Model High School of Anavryta.

The members of the “AiRcar” team, Aliki Araniti, Danai Aravosi, Zanet Maria Veraha, and Lydia Aggelaki, guided by their supervising teacher Ms. Aggeliki Zoupa from HAEF Athens College Psychico College, along with the members of the “The Sea Musketeers” team, Katerina Stamatopoulou, Foivi Tzannetou, Christina Eudaimon, and Isabella Prokopiou, mentored by Ms. Nikoleta Boltsi and Ms. Marina Pandi of the Model High School of Anavryta, presented their projects before the international judging panel and stood out among 14 international student teams for their exceptional quality and innovation.

The international judging committee was composed of nine (9) representatives from EU-CONEXUS partner universities, including: La Rochelle University (France), the Agricultural University of Athens (Greece), the Catholic University of Valencia (Spain), Klaipeda University (Lithuania), the University of Zadar (Croatia), the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest (Romania), the South East Technological University of Waterford (Ireland), and Frederick University (Cyprus).

During the competition, students formed teams and took part in a series of challenges designed to promote critical thinking and foster creativity in relation to smart, sustainable urban coastal development.

The evaluation process consisted of three (3) stages. In the first stage, each EU-CONEXUS partner university held a national pre-selection round, choosing five (5) top projects per age category. These selected projects were then presented to national judging panels, who determined which teams would advance to represent each university in the International Final. In the final stage, the national winners presented their projects online to the international committee, which then awarded the top three teams in each age group.

The EU-CONEXUS School Contest “Think Smart, Create Green,” will continue for a sixth consecutive year. Soon, participating students and their teachers will once again have the opportunity to create and bring their vision for a greener future to life.
