Overview

The AUA Foreign Language Office promotes, encourages and supports the English Language Teaching in higher education aiming at the effective development of academic skills in English, and providing wider opportunities of English language use as a tool in the academic and scientific environment.

According to the curriculum, English is the only foreign language taught in AUA and it is a compulsory course for the first six semesters of studies (according to relevant decisions by the AUA Rector’s Council ( 13/09/1994), and the decisions of the Senate 152/28.5.92 and 166/13.7.93, 479/06.07.2015). Students cannot graduate unless they have successfully completed the English courses of the curriculum, with the exception of language certificate holders on the basis that they have prior language proficiency: According to the decisions of the Senate, students who submit a foreign language certificate of at least B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) are entitled to an exemption from all English courses.
