Quality Policy
The mission of the Agricultural University of Athens is to provide high quality educational work at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral level as well as through lifelong learning programmes, which corresponds to the latest developments in science and covers all scientific fields of the broader agricultural sector, including, among others, agri-food, biodiversity, blue growth, and the circular economy, as dictated by the approaches of integrated health and sustainable development.
It also promotes basic and applied research and social development, represents the independence of science, and seeks meritocracy and social benefit through the exploitation of the results of science and technology.
Our University's vision is a dynamic positioning in the international academic environment and responding to needs of the Greek economy and society, such as productivity, growth, and development.
The strategic goals that constitute the Foundation's policy are:
- Excellence in education
- Excellence in research
- Excellence in research excellence in education and training
- The internationalization and extroversion of the institution
- The continuous improvement of the university environment
- Quality assurance in all the activities of the institution
The management, teaching, research, administrative and technical staff of the Foundation are committed to the following basic principles:
- Implementation of the legislation: All staff must apply the legislation and the regulatory framework of the University.
- Preserving academic principles: The rules and regulations of AUA shall apply to all staff, including the implementation of rules and regulations of the University. Free expression and acceptance of diversity are encouraged, and active prevention of discrimination is sought.
- Continuous quality improvement: All academic and administrative departments of AUA must work according to quality principles, to the instructions of the National Authority of Higher Education, to the Principles and Guidelines of the European Higher Education Area for Quality Assurance and to Quality Management System, developed by the University.
- Collectivity - Cooperation: All members of the academic community (teaching, administrative and technical staff, students of all programmes of study) have the right and the obligation to participate in the implementation of the University ‘s quality policy, with distinct roles in the quality assurance procedures (Administration, QAU, IEG (Internal Evaluation Group), Teaching and Research Staff, Administrative Staff and Students). Yet, close cooperation between the members is a duty for the Institution ‘s smooth operation and the upgrading of the performed work.
- Impartiality - Transparency: The Administration and the university community are committed to promoting maximum transparency in all operations and decisions of the individual and collective University bodies and safeguarding the primary principles, such as meritocracy, honesty, and mutual respect.
- Social Responsibility: AUA, through its procedures, considers the feedback from external productive, social, and cultural stakeholders to enhance the improvement of the Foundation's output and its contribution to society.
- Allocation of resources: The Management of the Foundation is committed to ensuring the necessary resources for the smooth operation of the Foundation and its further development.
To implement this policy, the Foundation is committed to implementing procedures that prove:
- the appropriateness of the structure and organization of the department
- the suitability and competence of the qualifications of the teaching staff
- the quality of the support services provided by the academic and administrative units
- the annual internal evaluation of the academic departments in tandem with the University’s Internal Evaluation Groups of the Departments (IEG) and Quality Assurance Unit (QAU).
