Pursuant to the Laws 4485/2017, in particular, the Official Journal of the Government No114A of 4/08.2017 & 4589/2019, namely, the Greek Government Gazette, No13A of 29.01.2019, the Senate, being the overarching instrument of AUA, consists of the following governing bodies and members of the administrative entities:
A) The Rector of the University,
B) The Vice Rectors,
C) The Deans of the Schools,
D) The Heads of the Departments,
E) Student representatives, at a rate of 10%, out of the total number of the members involved in the Senate, in cases (a) to (d), as described above. If, based on that percentage, a decimal number is obtained, then it is rounded to the previous whole number, whenever the decimal part is less than half (0.5), otherwise to the next integer, in case that comes to half (0.5), or greater than half. Student representatives, comprise, at least one (1) representative of the undergraduate category and one (1), in total, out of the postgraduate students and PhD candidates, on the condition that there is such a number.
The above agents of the students are elected, including their deputies, for an annual term of office, by the students, obtaining the entitlement to participate, by means of a direct, secret and universal suffrage, coming from all the students of the pertinent category of the Foundation.
F)Three (3) representatives, each one (1) per teaching category, specifically resulting from the members of the Special Teaching Staff, the Special Laboratory Teaching Staff, and the Special Technical Laboratory Teaching Staff of the Institution.
G)One (1) representative of the administrative personnel of the University.
Indeed, the factors of the above cases (f) and (g) are selected by voting, along with their alternates, through the process of a consequential, unanimous vote cast in secret, as regards the members of the relevant category of the staff of the Foundation, upon a single ballot paper for each category, addressed for a two - year term, besides the possibility of re-election for an additional term.
H)The Vice President of the Integration Council, without the right to vote, acting as a rapporteur on matters within the scope of the Council at issue, until 31.08.2024.
On top of that, the Senate is constituted and operates legally, even if the persons entrusted, on the part of the students, as well as the teaching members of the aforementioned categories of AUA, and the administrative staff, have not been appointed by voting.
Furthermore, throughout the meetings of the Senate, representatives of the Associations of the Teaching and Research Faculty Members and the other teaching categories of the University, may be convened and present themselves without the right to vote.This is, actually, the case with any other person or persons, even more bodies, deemed necessary for providing information to the Senate.
In conclusion, the Senate has all the responsibilities and tasks as prescribed in article 13, (2) of the Law 4485/2017, in addition to the individual provisions, not only of the previously mentionted legislative act, as amended and in force, but also of the Organisation and the Internal Regulations of the Educational Institution, respectively.
