Renovated Student Residence Hall of the Agricultural University of Athens Inaugurated in Karpenisi

The fully renovated Student Residence Hall of the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management of the Agricultural University of Athens in Karpenisi was officially inaugurated on Monday, 3 August 2026, marking the completion of a major project that substantially upgrades student welfare infrastructure and further strengthens the University's academic presence in the Region of Central Greece.
The inauguration ceremony was blessed by His Eminence Metropolitan Georgios of Karpenisi and was attended by representatives of the State, local government, the academic community, the Church, and local authorities. Among those present were the Governor of the Region of Central Greece, Mr Fanis Spanos, the Deputy Regional Governor of the Regional Unit of Evrytania, Mr Aris Tasios, the Deputy Regional Governor for Mountainous and Forest Policy, Mrs Katerina Kalantzi, the Mayor of Karpenisi, Mr Christos Kakavas, the Rector of the Agricultural University of Athens, Professor Spyridon Kintzios, the Vice Rector for the European University, Internationalisation and Student Welfare, Professor Eleni Miliou, as well as representatives of public authorities and local organisations.
The renovated Student Residence Hall will welcome its students, offering modern and functional accommodation facilities. It comprises 25 rooms with a total capacity of 50 beds and includes fully equipped accommodation units, a shared kitchen, a multipurpose hall, a gym, modern sanitary facilities, as well as infrastructure ensuring barrier-free access for persons with disabilities, thus addressing the essential accommodation needs of the Department's students.
The project, entitled "Infrastructure Upgrade of the Former TEI of Karpenisi – Maintenance and Renovation of the Student Residence Hall", with an initial budget of €1 million, was financed, tendered and implemented by the Region of Central Greece. Its implementation followed the signing of a programme agreement between the Region of Central Greece and the Agricultural University of Athens by the Regional Governor, Mr Fanis Spanos, and the Rector of the University, Professor Spyridon Kintzios.
The development of modern student accommodation infrastructure constitutes a key prerequisite for enhancing the quality of student life and forms part of the Agricultural University of Athens' strategic commitment to continuously improving student welfare services and strengthening its academic units across the Region. The new Student Residence Hall is expected to make a substantial contribution to the daily lives of students of the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management by providing a safe, functional and contemporary living environment.
In his address, the Rector of the Agricultural University of Athens, Professor Spyridon Kintzios, stressed that the completion of the Student Residence Hall marks another important milestone in the University's development in Karpenisi, noting that "we have won the challenge of Karpenisi and, through it, the challenge of Central Greece." He also referred to the steady growth of the Department, the increasing number of enrolled students, and the vision for further strengthening the presence of the Agricultural University of Athens throughout Central Greece.
The operation of the new Student Residence Hall represents another significant step towards further strengthening the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management in Karpenisi, reaffirming the Agricultural University of Athens' long-standing commitment to developing modern educational and student facilities that enhance the academic experience, improve student life, and contribute substantially to the sustainable development of Central Greece.
