The GIS Research Unit of the Agricultural University of Athens develops smart farming training material and launches training for farmers from the Region of Central Greece
The GIS Research Unit of the Agricultural University of Athens (https://gis.aua.gr) is participating in the European Erasmus+ program AgriLearn (https://agrilearneu.com). The project aims to transform European agriculture through the use of smart, digital, and sustainable practices. A key deliverable of the project is the development of a user-friendly online platform that will provide practical knowledge on spatially-based digital technologies in agriculture.
As part of the program, the GIS Research Unit has completed its report on the research of best practices related to farmer training in smart farming technologies. Based on the analysis of survey responses from farmers in Spain, Cyprus, the Netherlands, and Greece, the report identified the main factors and challenges influencing the adoption of smart agricultural practices. These findings led to the development of structured e-learning material focusing on the core principles and applications of smart farming.
