BlueAquEdu Workshop on Cage Farming

Dear students,
The Agricultural University of Athens, as a member and coordinator of the project "Blue Career Centre for Aquaculture Education supported by a gamification approach and distance learning platform (BlueAquaEdu)", invites you to participate in the online workshop: "Cage Farming ", which will have an educational focus and will take place on Monday, May 12th, 2025.
The BlueAquaEdu project is being implemented under the EMFAF-2023-BlueCareers, it is co funded by the European Union under agreement ID 101124699 and aims to enhance blue skills in aquaculture.
The lectures will provide participants with essential knowledge and skills for effective management of aquaculture and cage farming systems. Topics include an overview and importance of aquaculture, with emphasis on Mediterranean mariculture and key species such as European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax), gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) and meagre (Argyrosomus regius), along with their farming methods, environmental considerations, sustainable practices, spatial planning, emerging technologies in aquaculture, post harvesting and economic relevance.
The lectures will also highlight current research trends and future directions focused on sustainability, species resilience, and health management. Innovative cage farming techniques, advanced cage materials, feeding and monitoring systems aimed at improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact will be presented.
