The Agricultural University of Athens, as a member and coordinator of the project "Blue Career Centre for Aquaculture Education supported by a gamification approach and distance learning platform (BlueAquaEdu)", invites you to the Summer School in “Aquaculture with emphasis on Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS)” dedicated to exploring career paths and opportunities in the thriving field of aquaculture.
Dates: 21-24 July 2025
Location: Peniche, Portugal

This unique four-day program combines fundamental science, behavioral skills, and business development to equip participants with the tools needed for a successful professional future, while also raising awareness of the vital role of blue professions in society.
Focusing on Recirculating Aquaculture Systems Technology & Design, the program also offers valuable insights into cage farming, hatcheries, aquaculture post-harvest value chain, and by-product valorization—providing a comprehensive overview of the full aquaculture production cycle.
The Summer School includes three days of interactive teaching and one day of field visit, ensuring a hands-on experience that connects theoretical knowledge with real-world practice and industry standards.
By attending this summer school, participants will obtain a deep and holistic understanding of aquaculture operations in:
- Global trends, the importance of aquaculture, and various systems
- Core ras principles as well as the importance of water quality, chemistry, and treatment
- Understanding the concept of cage farming as a method for raising fish in controlled structures
- Knowledge of common diseases in the target species
- Handling, processing, and preserving aquatic products.
- Ensure product quality and food safety
- By-product utilization & sustainability (e.g., waste minimization, resource recovery)
- Skills in market preparation and product development
- Networking and mentorship from industry experts
- Exploring career and internship opportunities in the aquaculture sector
