Agricultural University of Athens Ranked 4th Nationwide in Funding per Student under the New Public Investment Programme for Higher Education Institutions

The Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) ranks fourth nationwide in terms of funding allocated per student under the new Public Investment Programme for Higher Education Institutions, achieving one of the highest performances among Greek universities. The strong share of state grants, combined with revenue generated from European funding programmes and the University's own resources, reflects the tireless efforts of the University's Administration and its entire academic and administrative community to secure the necessary financial resources aimed at continuously enhancing the quality of education and research in the agri-food sector.
As highlighted in the latest Annual Report of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education, during a year in which overall university funding increased by 4%, primarily driven by a 13% rise in state funding and a general decline in external funding sources, the Agricultural University of Athens recorded a significant increase in its external funding. As a result, the University achieved a notable distinction, rising to fourth place nationwide in average annual total funding per student.
The University's strategic commitment to addressing the productive and developmental needs of the Greek economy, combined with its strong and active presence in the international academic environment, has enabled it to secure a stable level of annual external funding that now accounts for nearly half of its total funding.
Funding per student is widely recognized internationally as an important indicator of investment in higher education. For the Agricultural University of Athens, adequate funding per student is particularly crucial, as agricultural studies require laboratories, experimental farms, research infrastructure, specialized equipment, and field-based practical training, all of which entail significantly higher operating costs compared to many other academic disciplines. Alongside the continuous enhancement of its academic programmes, and with the strengthening of partnerships with industry and other productive sectors at the national, European, and international levels serving as a key pillar of its strategic policy, the University continues to reinforce its leading role in research, while further strengthening its links with the primary sector and contributing to the sustainable agricultural and rural development of Greece.
