Blueaquedu summer school: Aquaculture with emphasis on post-harvesting value chain

The Agricultural University of Athens, as a member and coordinator of the project "Blue Career Centre for Aquaculture Education supported by a gamification approach and distance learning platform (BlueAquaEdu)", invites you to the Summer School in “Aquaculture with emphasis on post-harvesting value chain” dedicated to exploring career paths and opportunities in the thriving field of aquaculture.
Dates: 8-11 July 2025
Location: Boulogne-sur-Mer, France

This unique four-day program combines fundamental science, behavioral skills, and business development to equip participants with the tools needed for a successful professional future, while also raising awareness of the vital role of blue professions in society.
Focusing on the aquaculture post-harvest value chain, the program also offers valuable insights into cage farming, hatcheries, Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), and by-product valorization—providing a comprehensive overview of the full aquaculture production cycle.
The Summer School includes three days of interactive teaching and one day of field visit, ensuring a hands-on experience that connects theoretical knowledge with real-world practice and industry standards.
By attending this summer school, participants will obtain
A deep and holistic understanding of aquaculture operations.:
- Understanding the life cycle, growth requirements, and best farming practices
- Understanding the concept of cage farming as a method for raising fish in controlled structures
- Knowledge of common diseases in the target species
- Core RAS principles as well as the importance of water quality, chemistry, and treatment
- Insight into different equipment and technologies
- Designing and implementing feeding programs
- Ensure product quality and food safety
- Apply sustainable practices (e.g., waste minimization, resource recovery)
- Networking and mentorship from industry experts
- Exploring career and internship opportunities in the aquaculture sector

On-site participation is mandatory. A limited number of Mobility Grants, are available for this summer school, awarded based on specific eligibility criteria.
