Participation of the Agricultural University of Athens in the Graduation Ceremony and Awarding of Diplomas to the first graduates of the EU-CONEXUS Joint Master Programme “Marine Biotechnology” in Valencia

On Friday, July 12, 2024, the graduation ceremony for the first cohort of students of the Joint Master Programme in Marine Biotechnology, implemented by the EU-CONEXUS European University Alliance for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability, of which the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) is a founding member, was held in Valencia, Spain. Specifically, the graduation ceremony took place at the Catholic University of Valencia, which is the Coordinator of this Joint Programme.

The objective of this Joint International Inter-Institutional Master Programme is to provide high-level education so that graduates acquire a strong scientific background and expertise in specific areas related to Marine Biotechnology. This Programme (Master of Science, 120 ECTS) is co-funded by the European Union as an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master.

The rectors of all nine partner universities of the EU-CONEXUS European Alliance attended the ceremony, where Master’s Diplomas were awarded to the 24 graduates of the first cohort of the EU-CONEXUS Joint Master Programme, who originated from 17 different countries. The ceremony was attended by the Rector of the AUA, Dr. Spyridon Kintzios, Professor, as well as by the Scientific Responsible of the Programme at the AUA and Vice Rector of the European University, Internationalization and Student Affairs of the AUA Dr. Eleni Miliou, Professor. The event was broadcast live (via live streaming).

The President of the EU-CONEXUS Governing Board and Rector of La Rochelle University, Professor Jean-Marc Ogier, emphasized that this event is a significant milestone in the history of EU-CONEXUS and generally of the Alliances of European Universities. He highlighted that it represents the collective effort of nine Universities toward the institutional, national, and European transformation of higher education. The goal is to continuously upgrade European studies and take the first step towards a European Degree.

At the opening of the ceremony, there were also speeches by graduates, where they enthusiastically described their experience and highlighted the important opportunity for postgraduate studies given to them through the ERASMUS MUNDUS program scholarships. Among them is Mrs. Christina Anna Stafyli, a graduate of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition of AUA, to whom the Rector of AUA Prof. Spyridon Kintzios had the honor of awarding the Joint Diploma of Master’ Degree in Marine Biotechnology.

After the ceremony, everyone wished the graduates health, strength, and successful careers. The graduates were also given the opportunity to network with the attendees and discuss their future career plans.
