Visit of a Delegation from Uganda Christian University of the Republic of Uganda at the Agricultural University of Athens
A group of delegates from the Faculty Staff and Administrative Personnel from Uganda Christian University of the Republic of Uganda have visited the Agricultural University of Athens, during the time period starting from Monday 15 until Friday 19 April 2024. The particular visit has been organized and taken place within the framework of the Action of International Mobility of the ERASMUS+ Program.
On Wednesday, April 17 2024, Teaching Staff from Uganda Christian University gave lectures at Papadakis Building of the Agricultural University of Athens, which all the interested parties could also attend on a live streaming online process. Specifically, Professor Elizabeth Balyejusa Kizito has given a lecture, entitled: “Sustainability in the context of climate change: Solanum aethiopicum”, in addition to Dr. John Livingstone Mutyaba, who has given a lecture, entitled: “Ethiopian eggplant (S. aethiopicum) in the Republic of Uganda: its production by small farmers and the supply chain”.
The Director of the Laboratory of Plant Breeding and Biometry, Ms. Penelope Bebeli, Professor of the Department of Crop Science, has scheduled that visit, with a view to considering the possibilities for further collaboration to be established by the Laboratory of Plant Breeding and Biometry on Plant Genetic Resources Issues.
Besides, throughout the visit, the four - member delegation has met with the Head of the Department of Crop Science, Mr. Epaminondas Paplomatas, Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Phytopathology, having a discussion on Plant Protection Topics that concern both the Republic of Uganda and Greece. Furthermore, Members of the Faculty Scientific Staff of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development have had an extensive debate with Dr. John Livingstone Mutyaba, thus deciding on the submission of a joint cooperation proposal with the Department of Crop Science.
Under the framework of this outreach visit, Ms. Thania Anastopoulou and Ms. Vicky Griva, Administrative Staff from the European Programmes Office of the Agricultural University of Athens, have had the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas and good practices on internationalization matters with Dr. Angella Napakol from the Directorate of Research, Partnerships and Innovation, along with Ms. Florence Jessika Nakiyingi from the Directorate of Human Resources and Administration, respectively, from Uganda Christian University in the Republic of Uganda. In conclusion, it is worth mentioning that two (2) students from that University have been on a three-month internship at the Agricultural University of Athens.
