Participation of the Agricultural University of Athens into the 38th Authentic Athens Classic Marathon

The 38th Authentic Athens Classic Marathon was held on Sunday November 14, 2021. The Agricultural University of Athens took part in this great event of athletic and socio-cultural character, with a team composed of 41 runners across the running lap of a 5 km race and two marathon runners too, namely Dr. Emmanuel Bouzas and Dr. Konstantinos Soulis of the Special Laboratory Teaching Staff.

It is remarkable that it is the first time that the Agricultural University of Athens has ever participated into that global reach athletic competition of the Authentic Athens Classic Marathon, presenting its own Team and pertinent athletic outfit. It is worth mentioning that the Vice Rector for Administrative, Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Nikolaos Derkas and the Vice Rector for Research and Lifelong Learning, Professor Stavros Zografakis had been supporting fervently and effectively the organisation of that sports event, featuring and launching the extroversion spirit of the Rectorate Authorities in the best possible way.

Furthermore, Professor Dionysios Kalivas, Dr. Konstantinos Soulis of the Special Laboratory Teaching Staff and the Physical Education Teacher Polyxeni Tsaliagkou, created the Team of the University Runners named “AUA Running” in September 2021, which has been in charge of organizing and coordinating the AUA participation into the 38th Authentic Athens Classic Marathon.

Indeed, the “AUA Running” Team aims at having an appeal to as many Academic Members as possible in order to encourage them to take part into sporting and other actions, hoping to give all the participants the opportunity of getting to know each other under conditions outside the daily work environment, contributing to such a team-building exercise, as well as developing and cultivating the sense of ”belonging” to the broad Academic Community Team.

In addition, the Academic Personnel including Students, Professors, Special Laboratory Teaching Staff, Special Technical Laboratory Teaching Staff and Administrative Staff had engaged in the arrangement of the Authentic Athens Classic Marathon. Out of the joy brought by “good sportsmanship” on the part of the AUA stakeholders, the desire for getting involved in similar actions has emerged. As far as the sportswear of the AUA Team for the specific athletic race is concerned, the Vice Rector for Research and Lifelong Learning, Professor Stavros Zografakis took care of the provision for the proper sweatshirts of the runners with the 101 years logo of the Agricultural University of Athens printed on them.

On top of that, on Sunday morning of the 14th of November 2021, the runners of the 5 km race gathered at the Zappeion in an atmosphere of excitement, taking a great deal of commemorative photos, showing with pride the banner created for welcoming the two marathon runners at the Panathenaic Stadium Kallimarmaro. Needless to say, the presence of the “AUA Clicks” Team was of great importance, since it had responded to the call for capturing all the necessary photographs immediately, expressing its warmth and enthusiasm.

In conclusion, the “AUA Running” Team is going to keep planning such actions, inviting all the Academic Community Staff to take active part into the prospective activities.
