Meeting of the Greek Association of Bakers with the Rectorate Authorities of the Agricultural University of Athens.

On Thursday January 19 2023, a meeting was held between the President of the Greek Association of Bakers (GAB), Mr Panayiotis Saxinidis and the Rector of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) Mr Spyridon Kintzios, Professor at the Rectorate Office of the University. The General Secretariat of the Greek Association of Bakers, Mr Grigorios Stratis, along with the member of the pertinent Board of Directors, Mr Grigorios Remoundos and the Vice Rector for Academic and Administrative Affairs, Lifelong Learning and Extroversion, Mr Emmanouil Flemetakis, Professor, the member of the Management Board of the Agricultural University of Athens, Mr Dimitrios Tsitsigiannis, Professor, as well as the Deputy Head of the Department of Crop Science, Mr Dimitrios Bilalis, Professor and Mr Peter Soldatos, Emeritus Professor participated in that meeting, too.

Throughout the meeting, which took place in a constructive and fruitful climate, proposals were discussed upon common actions, aiming at resolving the great issue of the adequacy of wheat and cereals, in addition to facing the cost of raw materials in the bakery sector. Specifically, the discussion of the acceptance on the part of the Agricultural University of Athens of the proposal of the Greek Association of Bakers was elaborated over the extension of the notarial agriculture that pertains to the  production of common wheat, taking into consideration the contribution of the Agricultural University of Athens towards that outward looking of the University, besides the aid for crops of the domestic adapted varieties, with a view to enhancing bread with a national identity. Finally, a meeting has been arranged by mutual agreement with the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr Georgios Georgantas for further claiming the institutional promotion of these actions, which fall within the general framework of the new Social Contract of the Agricultural University of Athens.
