Meeting of the AUA Rector with the Head of Rural Development, and the Coordinator of the Department of Agricultural Policy of SYRIZA - Coalition of the Radical Left
The Rector of the Agricultural University of Athens, Professor Spyridon Kintzios, was delighted to welcome the Head of Rural Development, Member of Parliament (ΜΡ) from Laconia, Mr Stavros Arachovitis, as well as the Coordinator of the Department of Agricultural Policy of SYRIZA - Coalition of the Radical Left, Mr Theophanis Kourebes, on Thursday, the 19th of November 2020, at the Rector’s Office, getting involved in a two-hour constructive discussion.
Throughout this quite substantial meeting, the problems that had arisen, with respect to the primary and secondary sectors were further developed, giving great prominence to the reasons that have been causing them, searching for ways of recovery and finding solutions for the proper way out of the difficulties they have been encountering, so far. Indeed, it was highlighted, from both sides, that the problem of the Greek Agriculture, lies especially, on the lack of a national strategic planning, which could be, certainly put into effect, yielding fruitful results, under a cooperation framework, inasmuch the implementation of suitable policies, benefiting from the positive effects of related know- how, too.
To become more specific, rural development policies were elaborated upon a large variety of issues, such as education, research, the processing of agricultural products, the intermediaries, the magnitude of the agricultural farms and holdings, the possibility of a coalition of producers, in addition to that of the manufacturing of special products, even the possibility for granting and the one for the guaranteed income for farmers and other pertinent matters.
In conclusion, the Rector mentioned that AUA shall provide plenty of assistance, as in the past, by all means, towards the formulation of a national plan for agriculture, including the processing of related products as well, providing any forms of expertise required.
