Scientific Symposium on Locusts as Pests of Native and Cultivated Flora

We would like to inform you that on April 8th, 2025, a Scientific Symposium titled

“Locusts as Pests of Native (Apicultural & Pastoral) and Cultivated Flora”

is scheduled to take place at the Agricultural University of Athens.

The Symposium is organized by the Agricultural and Productive Entomology Research Group (APE) of the Agricultural University of Athens and is held under the auspices of the Agricultural University of Athens, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the Region of Central Greece, the Hellenic Entomological Society, and the Hellenic Society of Phytiatry.

It will be held on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, from 11:00 to 15:00, at the Conference Auditorium of the Agricultural University of Athens, and will also be available for remote participation.

 

The Symposium will include presentations by distinguished researchers on topics such as:

  • “Consumption of Plant Surface by Orthoptera Species Calliptamus barbarus barbarus, Dociostaurus maroccanus (Orthoptera: Acrididae), and Tettigonia viridissima (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae) under Laboratory Conditions”, Dr. Spyridon Antonatos, Research Associate, Benaki Phytopathological Institute
  • “Pastures and Meadows as Perpetual Providers of Apicultural and Pastoral Flora: Are Locusts a Threat Here Too?”, Dr. Nikolaos Emmanouil, Emeritus Professor, Agricultural University of Athens
  • “Biology and Systematics of the Main Locust Species in Greece”, Mr. Evangelos Kontogiannis, Agronomist, MSc
  • “Experiences in Locust Management: A Challenge (Both in the Office and in the Field) for Agronomists in Local Government”, Mr. Evangelos Vlachos, Agronomist, former Head of Plant Protection Sector, Karditsa Agricultural Directorate
  • "The Akrítai and the Locusts”, Mrs. Maria Kakali, Former Mayor of Agios Efstratios
  • “Principles and Methods for Locust Control to Protect Native (Apicultural and Pastoral) and Cultivated Plants”, Dr. Antonios Tsagkarakis, Assistant Professor, Agricultural University of Athens
